Healthcare staffing software for nurse and HCA desks.
Tempbench is healthcare staffing software for small UK agencies that supply nurses, healthcare assistants and support workers to NHS and private settings. It keeps NMC registration, DBS, right to work and training dates with warnings, shows who is free each day, and books long days and nights without clashes. £12.99 a seat a month plus VAT.

The staffing desk, not the ward.
Healthcare agencies run two kinds of system: one for the desk that finds and books staff, and the ones that framework holders, trusts and payroll need. Tempbench is only the first.

NMC registration, checked by you, dated in Tempbench.
The register is the evidence, not a card or a PIN on a CV. Tempbench keeps the date you checked and the date to check again.
How employers check. The NMC lets anyone search its register by PIN or name; it warns that more than one person can share a name, so use the PIN. Its employer confirmation service, which needs a username and password from the NMC, searches up to 10 PINs at once. Results show whether someone has effective registration with no restrictions, is on the register with restrictions or a caution order, or has been suspended or removed.
In Tempbench. Add the registration as a document under Other on the nurse's record, with the renewal date as its expiry, and a dated note each time you check the register. Tempbench warns 30 days before the date and the planner warns before you book someone whose document has run out. Positions such as Registered nurse or Nursing associate are yours to name.
Tempbench stores what you enter. It does not look anything up with the NMC.
DBS with barred lists, right to work and mandatory training.
The other dates a healthcare desk lives by, each on the worker's record.
DBS. GOV.UK lists four levels of check; an enhanced check with barred lists shows the same as an enhanced check and also whether the person is on a barred list. Which level a role can have depends on what the person does, so use the GOV.UK eligibility tool. A DBS check has no official expiry date, so enter the date you want it renewed, or check the Update Service with the worker's permission.
Right to work. You must check before someone starts. When permission is time-limited, GOV.UK says you must check again when it is due to expire, and keep copies during their work and for 2 years after they stop working for you. Put that date on the right to work document.
Training. Upload each mandatory training certificate, such as moving and handling, basic life support or safeguarding, as a training certificate with the date it runs out. Data checks lists everything due in the next 30 days.
The NMC also tells employers to check that anyone they employ is not on the barred lists, and to verify references before someone starts.
Long days, nights and short-notice gaps.
A ward rings for a long day tomorrow and two nights at the weekend. Put the shifts on a job, then fill them from the people who are free.
- Long day
- One shift from early morning to evening on the job. One booking, not two.
- Night into morning
- A night that ends the next morning is treated that way. A day shift that starts before it ends is blocked.
- Usual week
- Nights only, weekends only, Monday to Wednesday. Each new week starts from it, and single dates can change.
- Seven in a row
- A warning before a seventh day in a row.
What it does not check: rest periods between shifts, weekly working hours, or a hospital's own rules on how many shifts a worker may do.

Where Tempbench fits a healthcare desk, and where it does not.
A good fit if
- You supply nurses, HCAs or support workers to hospitals, clinics or private providers by the shift
- You want NMC, DBS, right to work and training dates in front of you when you book
- You fill shifts by phone and want to see who is free tonight
- Your timesheets and payroll already run somewhere else
Not the right fit if
- You need NHS framework compliance reporting in the same system
- You need to book into a trust's bank or rostering system
- Staff expect an app or texts to pick up shifts
- You need timesheets, pay and bill or invoicing today
Supplying care homes instead?
If your desk mainly supplies carers to care homes and home care providers, the care agency page covers DBS, waking nights and the difference between staffing software and care management software.
Questions healthcare agencies ask.
Does Tempbench check the NMC register for me?
No. Tempbench has no link to the NMC. You check the register yourself, by PIN on the NMC website or with its employer confirmation service for up to 10 PINs at once, then note the date you checked and the renewal date on the nurse's record so Tempbench can warn you before it comes round.
Can Tempbench handle long days and night shifts?
Yes. A job holds its shift times, so a long day or a night that runs into the next morning is one booking. The week planner blocks a second shift that overlaps it, including the next morning, and warns before a seventh day in a row. It does not check rest periods between shifts.
Is Tempbench approved for NHS framework agencies?
No. Tempbench is a CRM for the agency's own desk. It has no NHS framework compliance tooling, no audit reports for framework holders and no link into NHS trusts' rostering or bank systems. Agencies on a framework still need whatever records and systems their framework asks for.
How is this different from your page for care agencies?
The care agency page is for agencies supplying carers to care homes and home care providers. This page is for agencies supplying nurses, healthcare assistants and support workers to hospitals, clinics and private healthcare, where NMC registration, enhanced DBS with barred lists and mandatory training dates are the daily checks.
Can nurses pick up shifts in an app?
No. There is no candidate app or portal, and no texting from Tempbench. You confirm shifts by phone, or with a message template that opens in your own email or that you copy into your own phone. Bookings are not sent out automatically, and there are no timesheets.
